I’ve been encouraged to establish a public blog since I started back to school this year, not only by a couple of professors, but by the unfounded success of others, i.e. the girl whose blog evolved into the ‘Julie & Julia’ movie. Not that I’m naive enough to think the same fate would fall in my lap, but one can always dream. At any rate, here it is, and it’ll definitely be a work in progress. I graduate (finally!) with my English degree next December, so perhaps this will be an outlet for opportunities once I have my all-important diploma in hand. Ideally I’d like to be a travel writer, hotel reviewer, or a freelance writer working on magazine articles, interviews, etc. “Ideally” is definitely the key word here; with the Internet as prominent as it is in today’s world, literally everyone is a travel writer, hotel reviewer, and/or a freelance writer. Just visit TripAdvisor.com if you think I’m joking!
Very briefly, my name is Brian, I’m currently 29, and I grew up in South Georgia. I moved away to Nashville, Tennessee for a few years (that’s where the banner pic’s from–it’s Belle Meade Plantation, and I chose it because it fits the theme I’m going for), and now I’m back in the suburban Atlanta area, working full-time and going to school part-time at Kennesaw State. This is my first blog outside of MySpace or Facebook, but I don’t really count Facebook since their format (“Notes”??) is so uninspiring. A few colleagues in the poetry class I’m taking this semester have expressed that they enjoy my “Southern voice,” not to mention my sarcasm, so if those come out in the blog, so be it. And I went with the title “Southern Aristocracy” just because it sounds so aspirational, which is pretty much me in a nutshell. With that, I’ll end here before I let my long-windedness shine through anymore. Thanks for reading!
